The Importance of Well Child Visits

Your child’s health is important, and that’s why well-child visits with your pediatrician can give you peace of mind and help your child staywell child visits healthy. The pediatricians at Little Oaks Pediatrics in Raleigh, North Carolina Dr. Ceyhun "Jay" Ozturk and Dr. Maria Guerra offer pediatric services including well-child visits to help make sure your child enjoys a healthy life.

Regular visits can help prevent illness and make sure your child’s development and growth are normal. It’s also a great way to make sure your child is current on immunizations.

Your child should receive an initial well-child visit within 48-72 hours of birth, at 2 weeks, 1 month, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months and 12 months according to the American Academy of Pediatrics.

At the well-child visit, your pediatrician will measure your child’s height, weight, and other essential information. This provides an important baseline for future visits, to make sure your child is on a healthy, normal growth and development track. To find out more about child healthcare recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics, you can view or print this handy guide, by clicking on this link: https://www.aap.org/en-us/Documents/periodicity_schedule.pdf

These visits provide a great opportunity for you to discuss any concerns you have about your child’s eating, sleeping, or behavioral issues.

One of the most important ways well-child visits help your child is by ensuring your child is current on immunizations. Immunizations protect your child from serious diseases like meningitis, hepatitis, or the flu. Immunizations also protect you and other children and adults your child comes into contact with. They are also required for your child to attend daycare or school. For more information about the current immunization schedule from the Centers for Disease Control, please click on this link to view or print a handy list of recommendations:
