The moment the strip turns pink you know your whole life is about to change. There are so many wonderful and amazing experiences that you’ll enjoy during your pregnancy. It can sometimes feel daunting when it comes to what you need to do to make sure that both you and the baby get the care you need to stay healthy throughout your pregnancy and childbirth. And one of the ways to safeguard both of your health is by getting prenatal care.
During your prenatal care visits, our doctors can monitor the health and development of the fetus. Of course, these visits are also to help you throughout the course of your pregnancy. From testing to warning signs to chronic health problems during pregnancy, we can answer all of your questions and provide you with the care you deserve during the wonderful and life-changing time.
During your first prenatal visit, we will take some time to get to know you. We will go through your medical history, as well as your partner’s medical history and your family’s. Then we will perform a physical examination. We will check your vitals and then typically a gynecological exam is performed. We will also perform a Pap test and an STD test. A urine sample may also be collected to check for infections or chronic health problems like diabetes.
We will also discuss your lifestyle and any changes you may need to make to ensure you have a healthy pregnancy. Some factors we will want to address are nutrition, vitamins and supplements, exercise, smoking/drinking, etc.
In healthy women between the ages of 18 to 35, you can expect to come in for prenatal visits about every four to six weeks for the first 28 weeks of your pregnancy. Once you reach your eighth month, you will come in every two to three weeks. From the ninth month until delivery you will come in once a week.
