FAQS about Prenatal and Newborn Visits

A happy healthy baby begins with the very best prenatal care in Raleigh, NC.prenatal visits, newborn visits

Once you find out you’re pregnant, you want to find a pediatrician who can help make sure both you and your child get the care you both need. Our Raleigh, NC, pediatricians, Dr. Ceyhun “Jay” Ozturk and Dr. Maria Guerra, are here to answer your burning questions about what goes into prenatal and newborn care and how we can help.

Q. When should I bring my newborn in for their first checkup?

A. The first two years of your baby’s life are full of developmental milestones, so it’s important that you are bringing them in regularly for checkups and exams to make sure they are reaching these milestones and remaining healthy. Their first checkup should happen within five days of giving birth.

Q. How often should my little one see a pediatrician?

A. You will want to follow this guideline for wellness checkups, created by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). While these appointments are designed to monitor the health of your little one as they grow up, these visits are also a great opportunity for parents to ask any questions or address any concerns they might have about the health of their child.

Q. How soon into my pregnancy should I choose a pediatrician?

A. It’s a good idea not to wait until the last minute to choose a pediatrician in Raleigh that you trust. In fact, you should choose a children’s doctor while you are still pregnant. It’s a good idea to strongly consider your pediatric options between 28 and 34 weeks into your pregnancy.

Q. How can a pediatrician help expectant parents?

A. While we don’t provide prenatal care to expectant mothers this doesn’t mean that our children’s doctors can’t still provide some help. Whether you have questions or medical concerns regarding your unborn child or your pregnancy, you can come into our office for free so we can answer any questions you might have. And, if you choose to have us as your child’s pediatrician, you’ll be able to see firsthand the kind of individualized and compassionate care we will provide your little one.
